Brain injury support for Annemarie McCarty

On the morning of July 9th, 2023, Annemarie was out for a walk in her neighborhood with her son’s dog, Buddy, when she took a devastating fall that rendered her unconscious immediately. A Good Samaritan passing by discovered Annie lying on the pavement with Buddy by her side, and she was rushed to the Trauma Center ICU, where she has remained.

Amongst other injuries, Annemarie sustained a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) that resulted in widespread bleeding inside and around both sides of her brain, as it jolted around in her head upon impact. The bleeding is extensive, and the effects on her cognition, speech, language, and motor skills are significant. Her impaired cognition and language appear to be some of the most difficult hurdles to overcome, but we remain hopeful for improvement and grateful for each small milestone. She will often turn and look in response to her name, and can speak some limited, memorized phrases. Annemarie will need long-term care and the road ahead will be full of treatment, intensive rehabilitation therapies, and medical bills.

Annemarie has spent a lifetime putting the needs of others before her own. Now, she needs our help.
