Medical bills for Kyra's brain surgery
Donation protected
UPDATE:
Kyra is finally home from the hospital. This journey is not over, but we are on the road to recovery. We would like to thank each and every person that has supported us in some way. We love you all. Thank you.
Hi, my name is Kristen. My daughter Kyra is 9 years old and in the 4th grade. She is an incredibly kind and sweet child. She is always the first one to jump in and help everyone around her.
17 days ago she started having constant pressure in her head. As a few days went by, we were getting very worried. After visiting the hospital, the neurologist, and the neurosurgeon - we have a diagnosis and although there isn't a cure, we have a way to help her.
Kyra has a condition called Chiari Malformation. The back part of her brain (cerebral tonsils) is too big and distended in her spinal canal. The malformation is compressing her spinal cord causing the head pressure, weakness on her left side, and vision problems.
We now must move forward with surgery (May 17th) to allow her brain more room to move, so that the compression stops and won't continue to do irreversible damage. This is and will be a crippling amount of medical bills that we are just not able to handle. Even with medical insurance, this will cost us thousands of dollars that we just don't have.
The recovery of this procedure can be rough and lengthy depending on how her body heals. With a several day stay coming up in the hospital, multiple Doctor visits, more testing, accomidations, etc - we need help. It isn't an easy thing to ask for and we never thought it would be us in this position. Any donation at all is greatly appreciated.
Even if you are unable to donate, please share this with others, Thank you. This is a very scary situation and we appreciate all of the support.
