Medical bills for Puk
Donation protected
On October 19th, a week after moving into a new house, our 13 year old cat Puk managed to escape out the back door. The next day she was found injured by animal rescue workers and brought to a local vet. Thanks to her microchip the vet was able to contact us. We were initially advised to euthanize her due to her age and injuries, or at the very least have one of her legs amputated. We opted for a second opinion at the speciality animal clinic to make sure we had all our options clear.
Puk sustained a broken ankle on one of her hind legs, a broken toe and serious skin wound on her other hind leg, and a big wound on her stomach. She stayed in the clinic for a week and had two surgeries before being able to come home. She had to be taken in to the clinic again two weeks later for another surgery, the first surgery on her ankle failed and needed to be fixed. When she came home a few days later she still needed bi-weekly bandage changes and checkups for the wounds on both her legs. Thankfully the wound on her stomach was stitched up and healed quickly.
7 weeks of rest and medication, and the excellent care of the Utrecht speciality clinic, Puk is now slowly getting back to her old self. She even got to keep both of her legs! Right now we’ve got a ways to go before she’s completely healed, but she’s beaten the odds and got through this ordeal like a champ. She feels great and we have high hopes for a full recovery.
Now that our worries about her well-being are almost over, the worries about her bill can definitely begin. Despite the clinic trying their best to keep costs as low as possible, the surgeries and aftercare racked up quite the bill. The total for her life saving care is a little over 12.000 euros. So we are shamelessly asking donations from everyone who can spare something. Even if it’s just a small amount.
And please, let this also be a lesson on the absolute importance of microchipping and registering your cats. If not for her microchip, Puk would have been euthanized and we would never have known what happened to her. Thanks to her chip she is now home, safe, and healing.
This little kitty has been our joy for 13 years, and with your help we hopefully won’t be in debt for that long either!
Thank you <3
All donations will be paid out to my mother, Diana Guldenaar. She has graciously offered to pay the bill in full so I can pay her back in installments. This way the clinic is fully paid off and I can have a little more time paying off my debt.
