Medical bills for retired LAPD Officer
Donation protected
My name is Tara Kessop. I served 20 years as an LAPD Officer and retired when i was 47. I spent most of my time serving the community of Watts. I'm a 3 time Grandmother and an avid cat rescuer. I still have passion for helping those in need. I'm 52 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer in May 2023. Unfortunately, LAPD doesn't reimburse health insurance until age 55. When I was diagnosed, and for the first few months I didn't have any health insurance. Getting commercial insurance was difficult and took months to get. My bills have reached over 232k and I am hoping to get myself out of medical debt. I have tried to get government assistance, but unfortunately I don't meet their parameters.
So far I've had 3 chemo treatments and surgery. The surgery was a complete hysterectomy along with other organs removed. My journey isn't over, I still have other treatments coming up. The Dr's believe I can go on to live a healthy life upon completion of my treatment. I truly appreciate anything you can give. Thanks for reading my story and sharing my journey with me. Please share.
