medical bills for teddy's liver transplant
Donation protected
Hi there,
My name is Jamie. My son Teddy was diagnosed with hypo-plastic left heart syndrome at 20 weeks in the womb (for which he will need heart surgery in the near future). But when Teddy was born, he was also diagnosed with Biliary Atresia, which meant he also needed a liver transplant. As liver transplants are not done on children in Ireland, we traveled to Belgium for the procedure, where I donated 20% of my liver to Teddy. The operation was a success. We have refrained from going down this road up until now. With help from family and charities we were able to cover our expenses and thought that the medical expenses were being taken care of. Unfortunately, they were not all being taken care of and we now have overdue bills we are not in a position to pay. Teddy will need further treatment in Belgium (including heart surgery) and so will other Irish children like Teddy in the future. I have had to stop working to recover from surgery and become Teddy's full-time carer. These bills are crippling us as a family so we have had to swallow our pride and ask for help. If we receive more donations than are necessary to cover the bills from Teddy's liver transplant then we will put the money towards Teddy's future heart surgery bills and to appropriate relevant charities.
