Medical Care Costs for Rescue Cats - Cat Cafe London
Donation protected
At Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium we pride ourselves on managing all our adoptions and re-homings completely in-house.
We believe our role in the rescue ecosystem is to take on animals that rescues do not have capacity for. A typical model for cat cafes working with rescue cats involves working with a shelter. In this model, a shelter rescues the cats and arranges for all health checks and medical procedures before the cats go to the cafe. The shelter also screens adoption applicants, does homechecks and co-ordinates collection.
Our view on this model is that the shelter does the rescue work and carries all the labour and cost associated with, while the cat cafe profits from it financially, as well as taking credit for the rescue work the shelter does. This is not our way.
We rescue cats directly, carry out health checks, vaccinations, spaying & neutering, worming and flea treatments ourselves. We pay our cat care staff a living wage to do this work. We do not benefit from charitable rates and pay full price for everything. We're happy to do this: it's what we signed up for, and we would like to continue even though costs are continuing to rise. This fundraiser covers the cost for 10 adoptions, and any funds donated are ring-fenced for the exclusive use in adoptions only - this money will never be used for anything else.
Our standard practice when we take in cats includes:
- Ringworm check
- Worming
- Flea treatment
- Vaccination
- Spay/neuter
- Specialised food (kitten/gastro if tummy upset)
- Treatments and supplements for existing conditions ( for example, conjunctivitis/gingivitis/probiotics for digestive upset)
- Microchip
- Transport to and from vets
We greatly appreciate any support and are delighted to share updates on all the cats we take in and the care we provide for them. You can keep up with us via eNewsletter or by visiting our blog or social media accounts: Facebook , Instagram , Tiktok .
If donating is not your thing, please consider visiting our London Cat Cafe sometime, as we have always used funds from cafe trade to cover adoptions costs and the more visitors we get, the less we need donations (and you get a lovely day out in return!).
Over the past 10 years we have adopted and rehomed over 80 cats, and its our favourite part of the job! Please help us to continue.
Thank you for all your support and kindness
