Medical care for Street dogs in Sri Lanka

I have had a full and fabulous 30 year career working with dogs! Vet nursing, Guide Dog Training, Police Dog Handling, Dogs Trust and self employed working with dog training and behaviour.

I often speak about the behavioural side of dogs who roam freely on the streets and how we can incorporate their ethogram to support our pet dogs who we introduce to our very human world.

Now it's time to practise what I preach!! I'm so interested in these dogs that I'm going to go observe them myself!

Coupled with that I'm going to volunteer with WECare who provide essential Vet care for these gorgeous dogs. They sound like an amazing team and I'm very excited to share my whole experience with you!

I'm going armed with knowledge to support them in looking at stress reduction for the hospitalised dogs (and cats!) and to learn about their important work too!

I've struggled a little with the UK winter weather this year so escaping to sunny climates in Sri Lanka, I hope will keep me flexible and in good health, whilst also doing something so worth while!

More information about WECare Worldwide: Founded in 2014 by Dr Janey Lowes, WECare Worldwide aims to provide UK standard veterinary care for street animals in need around the world, starting in Sri Lanka due to the huge overpopulation of street dogs, often with extensive injuries or severe disease. Over the last four years, WECare have treated almost 6,000 animals in need and look to increase this number in a dramatic way in the near future through neutering and vaccination programmes, general medical treatment and community education.

I am super super keen to spend the WHOLE summer fundraising so I can travel to Sri Lanka in November with a HUGE donation to support the team.. and in return I will post a continuous log to keep you updated on my day to day work!
