I’m reaching out today with an important update about my dad’s health. For the past two months, he has been in the hospital, unable to walk and being fed through a catheter. His condition has been challenging, as he awaits a crucial surgery to remove a tumor that will allow him to eat again and continue his chemotherapy treatment.

This surgery is a pivotal step in his fight against lymphoma cancer. Once successful, it will give him the strength to continue his treatment and improve his quality of life. As you can imagine, the mounting medical expenses have been overwhelming for our family.

We are asking for your support to help cover the costs of his hospital care, surgery, and ongoing treatments. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in ensuring he gets the care he desperately needs.

UPDATE as of September 2023, my dads tumor has been unchanged. He is diagnosed with Lymphoma non Hodgkin. This past week he has started a more aggressive chemo therapy treatment. We hope this new treatment will help decrease the size the size of the tumor. My dads treatment are more intense, they are 2.5 hrs away (Centro Estatal de Cancerología de Nayarit) and are administered over 3 consecutive days. We are so grateful to have supportive and caring friends and family who have been able to show up for us. We appreciate you! We continue to seek prayers and comfort during this new chemo journey. Thank you for opening your heart to my family. I am starting this fundraiser for my dad, Juan Manuel Rodriguez Alvarez, who currently lives in Mexico. Our family most humbly and kindly values any of your support and prayers at this time.

My father began experiencing agonizing abdomal pain at the beginning of February, a very sudden pain. A tumor had been found through x-rays and ultrasounds. My dad since then has been hospitalized in the Civil Hospital of Tepic, Mexico. On morphine to treat excruciating chronic pain. Doctors were able to perform surgery, cutting into his abdomen to extract a piece of the tumor. We were given the cancerous tumor, in a little bottle and are responsible to pay for a private lab to send for pathology. No one ever is ever prepared to deal with a crisis like this, so abruptly and life shattering. We feel a little helpless navigating a foreign medical system.

My sister and I became the primary caregivers. Leaving our work, taking a one-way flight to care for our dad. It has been a lot to take on ourselves. We are reaching out to our extended family and friends for support, in any capacity, to help us through next 6 to 8 weeks to cover the costs of the medical care.

Gracias por abrir tu corazón a mi familia. Estoy comenzando esta recaudación de fondos para mi papá, Juan Manuel Rodríguez Alvarez, quien vive en México. Nuestra familia valora humildemente y atentamente cualquiera de sus apoyos y oraciones en este momento.

Mi padre comenzó a sentir un dolor abdominal agónico a principios de febrero, un dolor muy de repente. Se había encontrado un tumor a través de rayos X y ultrasonidos. Mi papá desde entonces ha estado hospitalizado en el Hospital Civil de Tepic. Con morfina para tratar el dolor crónico insoportable. Los médicos pudieron realizar una cirugía, cortando su abdomen para extraer una parte del tumor. Nos dieron el tumor canceroso, en una pequeña botella y somos responsables de pagar un laboratorio privado para enviar a patología. Nadie está preparado para hacer frente a una crisis como esta, tan abrupta y devastadora. Nos sentimos un poco impotentes navegando en un sistema médico extranjero.

Mi hermana y yo nos convertimos en los principales cuidadores. Salir de nuestro trabajo, tomar un vuelo de ida para cuidar a nuestro papá. Ha sido mucho para asumir nosotros mismos. Nos estamos comunicando con nuestra familia extendida y amigos para obtener apoyo, en cualquier capacidad, para ayudarnos durante las próximas 6 a 8 semanas para cubrir los costos de la atención médica.

Todo cuenta. Un poco hace mucho aquí para las necesidades de alimentos, medicinas, tratamiento médico y transporte. Estamos muy agradecidos con todos los que están pendientes de mi papa, todos nuestras amistades y familiares, conscientes de esta situación, brindando consuelo, comprensión y oraciones.

Pronto se anunciarán más actualizaciones, una vez que se obtengan los resultados de patología.
