Medical & Dental Fund for Nathan Olson
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Catie, and my husband is Nathan. If you’re reading this you probably know us, and if you know us then you also know how difficult it has been to arrive at the decision to begin this fundraiser. As many of us also already know, 2020-21 has been full of medical and health challenges, and unfortunately we are no exception. We have found ourselves asking, “what else could possibly go wrong?”, ha…and then something else happens to remind us there is plenty more that can go wrong. Due to the temporary shuttering of my business and general financial unknowns that 2020 presented we have used our savings just to “make it”.
This year, in particular, has been a year of hurdles for Nathan. Early on in the year Nathan experienced an accident at work that fractured a vertebrae in his lower spine and he has been unable to return to work. The care that Nathan has received for his spinal injury thus far has been sub par due to it being a workers compensation claim. Nathan continues to go to work comp approved PT and doctors appointments hoping that things will improve on that front but the care is not ideal. If not improved in the new year, Nathan may want to pursue additional treatments that may or may not be covered by workers compensation coverage.
In July, Nathan was prescribed “Lisinopril”, a very commonly prescribed blood pressure medication that unbeknownst to anyone he would have a nearly lethal allergic response to, one that would amount to 3 days in intensive care at Poudre Valley Hospital to reduce the swelling in his face, throat, mouth, etc. Though the ICU stay at the hospital was “covered” (after a long fought battle with PVH and insurance), there are still significant costs to meet our out of pocket deductibles which are $7500+.
Lastly, due to another issue/reaction that Nathan had to a medication as a child that caused permanent damage to his teeth he is in dire need of significant dental work immediately (in the next 30-90 days), including implants on the upper jaw. This procedure in the states would cost between $35-50K, but we are researching more affordable options, including clinics in Mexico that offer the same services for closer to $10-15K. It is a 2-4 phase process and will take some time to complete. We have dental coverage, but it only covers basic care and the contribution is capped at $1000 annually, so unfortunately, the out of pocket costs will be significant.
So, with all that said, if you have the means to gift/share your financial resources we are humbly asking for your support to help with Nathan’s medical deductibles and dental costs. Nathan greatly appreciates your support, and will use any resources given with immense gratitude. Any and all resources donated will go directly towards paying PVH medical bills as well as the significant costs of the phased dental work.
