Medical emergency for Erica & family
Donation protected
My dear friend, Erica has seen challenge and struggle after struggle in her life. Several years ago, as a result of a major car accident she suffered a traumatic brain injury. The pressure from her brain swelling effected her vision. Her left eye is her “bad" eye. Erica is nearly blind in this eye; seeing only shadows. In the last couple of weeks she lost vision in her "good" eye paired with extremely painful headaches. Nearly three years ago she underwent surgery for a detached retina on this eye. Driving at night is impossible.
The car accident, in addition to vision struggles, left her with a crushed ankle; and a permanent limp, to the point, at age 34, she uses a cane most days. This all means she has the inability to return to the workforce. Erica is a stay-at-home Mom to son, Jaxson, 3 years old. Being a stay-at-home Mom to a toddler is a feat in itself. Imagine doing it - blind!!
Erica’s husband, Matt is the sole income earner for the family. He has taken nearly two weeks off work, unpaid, to care for Erica and their son, and drive her to many eye Dr appointments and surgeries. Thanks to FMLA, at least he won’t lose his job.
This family needs financial help as they have been traveling to Omaha for eye surgeries and specialist appointments several times over the last two weeks. With more coming up soon. $50 co-pays per doctor visit combined with the loss of income from Matt’s time off have taken their tole. Medical bills are adding up quickly. Not to mention the cost of the surgeries which we can only HOPE will restore vision to her “good” eye.
Through all her trials and tribulations over the years, Erica has NEVER asked for help. She is an inspiration to me; keeping her faith in God. With the holiday season quickly approaching, I can only imagine the stress this medical emergency has placed on their financial situation.
