Last night, my mother's blood pressure shot up, resulting in a brain bleed, which left her unconscious. Unfortunately, this happened in Liberia, West Africa, a country with minimal medical infrastructure. The country’s only neurosurgeon has left for a 14-day trip. The best course of action is to medically evacuate her to Ghana for monitoring and intervention by a neurosurgeon. The medical evacuation cost from Liberia to Ghana is $40,000. The balance $20,000 is the projected cost of hospitalization and medical fees.
