Medical expenses and 6-12 month recovery

My name is Mary Schulte and this is my horse, Baby Bug. We are members of both the our local Sheriff’s Posse and the Mounted Search and Rescue. This past May Bug developed a massive abscess in her hoof. All through the summer it reoccurred 3 times leaving her each time 100% lame. Three times she was put on antibiotics and went through weeks of poultice and wrapping to try to draw the abscess out. She blew out twice at the coronet band and three times through her sole. After such an extended amount of time and multiple vet visits I had X-rays done. The results of that showed we needed to go to the next step. She was taken to NW Equine Performance for a standing MRI. Our worst fear was realized when Bug showed a benign tumor, a keratoma, which had been assimilating her coffin bone. In order to take the tumor out a section of her hoof wall must be removed. Now, as we are in our way to the Oregon State University Veterinarian Hospital I am realizing the true gravity of our situation. The initial surgery could go as high as $5,000 with aftercare at the hospital and then at least 6 months boarding in a 12x24’ stall because she can not have ANY mud. LOL, we live in Oregon. I don’t like asking for help, but I realized that this will be near impossible to do on our own. Thank you in advance for any consideration for help!
