Medical Expenses Due to Kidney Surgery
I started this GoFundMe because I was forced to take time off of my job at McDonald's for kidney surgery, and I needed the money to cover some of the medical expenses but also my other bills, which continued to pile up. Since I didn't have insurance, I applied to a patient assistance program which is supposed to help low-income people without insurance pay for their medical bills, and was led to believe this program would cover my surgery -- but it didn't. In fact, I started receiving massive bills as I was recovering. Right now, my bill is over $47,000 and continues to climb as I am unable to pay. Recently, I started receiving collection notices. I have posted a photo of an early bill I received, which is less than half of what I'm being told I now owe. I requested an itemized bill will the full amount, which I will post as soon I receive it.
My husband is disabled and terminally ill, and in addition to my own health stress, I also care for him when I'm not working. He now has a permanent tube sticking out of his stomach which is used for multiple rounds of at-home dialysis, each day.
I am so grateful for my friends and family who have helped and contributed, but I don't know what else to do now except to ask the world for help.
