Medical Expenses for Brandi Stinson

Hi, my name is Virginia Madorin and I am fundraising for my cousin, Brandi Stinson (Brandi Stinson Draper). Brandi is a 39-year-old single mother of 1 (daughter - 17 years old).

On January 11, 2023, Brandi had a heart attack at work. She began experiencing severe pain and reported this to her supervisor who told her to go back to work and finish her shift. As the sole breadwinner for her family, she felt she had to finish her shift to avoid any repercussions at work. Two days later, she was still not feeling well. She went to the emergency room due to shortness of breath and extreme pain. She was immediately sent to UNC Hospital by emergency transport where she remains to date.

Two stints and numerous diagnostic tests later, the doctors discovered that she had a significant tear in her heart. There was a 30-40% chance she would not survive the surgery, but it was unavoidable. The doctors waited in hopes her heart would become stronger for surgery, and she finally had the procedure on January 30, 2023. Brandi has been in CardioPulmonary Intensive Care since surgery. She is improving, but she has a very long road ahead.

Although she filed for disability, this was delayed by her employer due to an oversight in the paperwork. Because of this, she has had no income since January. She has household expenses, as well as expenses for her daughter who is a senior who hopes to graduate this summer alongside her classmates. Her daughter has had to quit her part-time job and has missed a lot of school to be by her mother's side during this critical illness.
