Medical expenses for Dewayne Dales

Hello, I am Johnna Dales, the daughter of Dewayne Dales. My dad has been on a liver and kidney transplant list for 14 years. His kidneys failed in 2020 and he has been on dialysis since. His condition has progressively worsened over the last few years, but recently a new problem has surfaced. He has been dealing with repeated infections due to gallstones. On July 5th he went to the ER with sepsis resulting from an E. coli infection in the gallbladder. On July 7th, after Tifton was unable to effectively treat the infection he was sent to Piedmont hospital in Atlanta where his transplant doctor is located. In most cases this condition can be easily resolved by removing the gallbladder, but due to the severity of my dad’s liver disease they cannot remove the gallbladder. Being that the gallbladder cannot be removed they decided to try an alternative procedure today, July 14. This procedure was done to clean out the gallbladder and place a stent for passage of a gallstone. This procedure was unsuccessful in that he could not get to the gallbladder, but he was able to put in 2 stents in hopes that the stone will be able to pass on its own. He is being kept in Atlanta for observation and further treatment of the infection. He will possibly be able to come home Monday July 17 with home health coming to continue treatment.
