Medical Expenses for Elizabeth Houk Mullins
Donation protected
Good morning! I'm Elizabeth Mullins. As many of you know, I've struggled with heart disease for many years. I had my 23rd cardiac inserted into my RCA in September 2022. Three months later, on Christmas day, I had a serious heart attack that came from that same artery. The scar tissue was opened with angioplasty and I was okay for a month or two. Within the last month, I've begun to experience chest pain again. I was seen by a cardiologist at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis on March 17th and he is confident that the artery has closed down again. He plans to do a heart catheterization in Indy within the next week and reopen the artery but says that this will be a temporary fix. We cannot continue to have to do heart caths this often. The dye is dangerous for my transplanted kidney and accessing my femoral artery is dangerous because I have bled from the arteries on both sides in the past. So, after my procedure in Indy, he will refer me ASAP to Cleveland Clinic. There, they do a procedure in which they access the artery in a heart cath and zap the artery with radiation from inside. This should keep the scar tissue from recurring and blocking the artery again. This is very hopeful for me! But it comes with some significant financial concerns. Since my husband died last year, my son, Nathan, who is autistic, and I have been doing well making it from month to month. However, these hospitalizations will require me to pay for gas for many trips. Since I won't be able to drive after the Indy procedure, I'll have to pay for someone to take me to Indy, return to Richmond, and then come back to get me when I'm released. While I'm hospitalized, I will have to pay for lodging and food for Nathan to be there with me. Then, I will have to make one, if not two, trips to Cleveland Clinic. It is too far for someone to take me and return to pick me up. I will, likely, be in the hospital for at least a few days and will need to pay for lodging and food again for Nathan. Then, when I'm released, I will have to recuperate somewhere for a few days before I can drive home. This is a lot of expense and we simply don't have the money for it. I know things are rough financially for everyone right now. Costs are rising and wages aren't keeping up with them. But if there's any way you would be able to donate, we would appreciate it so much! Most of all, please keep us in your prayers. I am, understandably, concerned, but Nathan is really struggling. After losing his dad last year, he is terrified of losing me. Oh, and please, also, share my fundraiser on your social media accounts, if you don't mind. Thank you, all!
