Medical Expenses for James Williams Jr.

Donation protected
UPDATE:

We cannot begin to thank everyone enough for all their donations! It has truly been a blessing. We wanted to give a little update on everything currently going on with James as a lot has happened since we started the GoFundMe. James is making fantastic progress with his physical therapy, he has some down days, but that is completely expected. He is becoming a pro at using his wheelchair and is currently learning how to walk around our house, he isn't 100% ready to walk in public yet as he is still trying to regain his balance. He recently had a 3-month follow-up to see how his prosthetic was working and to see what adjustments might need to be made. Well, his residual limb has drastically shrunk in length and width to the point that his current prosthetic is no longer working. His Prosthetist re-casted his residual limb and is currently manufacturing a new temporary leg that James will test out for a bit to see how it fits and what adjustments might need to be made before the new leg is manufactured. Unfortunately, we are still paying off the first leg and we aren't sure if insurance is going to cover the cost of needing a second leg so soon, we are keeping our fingers crossed that they will be. The month of August was busy for James as he had several doctors' appointments and a new wound appeared on his right foot, the wound turned for the worse and was deep enough that our doctor was able to see bone. Luckily none of the images showed osteomyelitis and James was able to avoid another amputation. Unfortunately, he did get re-admitted to the hospital on September 8th and needed to have surgery again on September 13th. He is currently under observation as he has had several allergic reactions to the IV antibiotics, one of which included his throat closing up. We were told today, September 15th, that they will be keeping him for a few more days as his potassium levels are elevated along with his blood pressure. Due to him being a heart patient (quintuple bypass) his cardiologist has been notified and will be consulting with us at some point. Once James is discharged he will be back in his wheelchair while at home until the stitches are removed and his doctor allows him to return to physical therapy and put weight on his foot. We are not 100% sure if he will be sent home on IV antibiotics yet, but if he is they are around $450 a week, which is completely unreasonable. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they stop the antibiotics once he is discharged. With everything going on James has been able to keep his spirits up and has stayed positive through all the chaos that 2023 has thrown our way.

We have updated this fundraiser as we are trying to raise funds to help cover some of his medical expenses from his surgeries in January, February, and now his most recent one on September 13th. The medical expenses include but are not limited to his prosthetics, doctors' appointments, medications, and oxygen.

Any amount you're willing to contribute is greatly appreciated. If you aren't able to contribute at this time, a share with your family and friends would mean the world to us.

How it started:

Hi, my name is Melissa and I am fundraising for my husband James. We have spent most of 2023 in the hospital due to James needing to have surgery on his left foot due to an infection. Unfortunately, 3 days after he was discharged from the hospital we had to take him back due to an infection climbing his leg. When we got to the ER his oxygen levels were dropping below 60 while he was receiving oxygen, he had pneumonia and he was going into Sepsis shock. We found out shortly afterward that he was going to need a below-the-knee amputation. After treating his pneumonia for a week and getting his oxygen levels to a level the surgeon was comfortable operating at they did the procedure. He ended up needing 3 blood transfusions over the course of the next week. Afterward, James was transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility for two weeks while he continued to heal and started the long road to recovery.

I am doing this fundraiser to help raise some money for his medical expenses, which include but are not limited to a new wheelchair, prosthetic, doctors' appointments, medications, oxygen, a transfer board, and outpatient rehabilitation.

Any amount you're willing to contribute is greatly appreciated. If you aren't able to contribute at this time, a share with your family and friends would mean the world to us.
