Medical expenses for Kim Teter

My name is Jaime Hall and these are my parents, Kim and Sherrie Teter. About 4 weeks ago my dad had a colonoscopy for a bowel blockage and was diagnosed with colon cancer. The surgeon told him there was no indication it had spread and should be a simple surgery to just remove the tumor and he should be good. Surgery went as expected and the tumor was sent off to be tested. The pathology came back showing cancer in 24 out of the 31 lymph nodes that were removed. It also showed there was still some tumor remaining in the small intestine. At that time he was diagnosed with an aggressive complicated stage 3c colon cancer but needed more testing to see if it had spread. This week he had a PET scan that showed the cancer has moved into the liver which changed his diagnosis to stage 4, the final stage, but his oncologist is pretty hopeful it’s still treatable, since it’s only showing in one spot on the liver. She has referred him to a Dr in Kansas City at KU med. The plan is do another surgery and remove the residual cancer from the small intestine as well as the sections of his liver that are affected, in combination with chemotherapy. With this comes many trips back and forth to Kansas City, hotel stays, food, added medical expenses that Medicare doesn’t cover, etc. My parents are on a limited income with social security and before long my dad won’t be able to work. Neither one of them would ever reach out for help so I am doing it for them. I know there are so many upcoming expenses they will not be able to afford which might leave my dad not wanting to seek treatment for fear of the burden it will put on the family.
