Medical Expenses for Lexie Rome; recent AVM
Donation protected
Our Story,
As most of you know, last Saturday 7/8/23, Lexie was rushed to the emergency room via ambulance.
Her original symptoms were neck pain, which lead to head pain, that lead to blurred vision and ended with vomiting. Once arriving at the emergency room, Lexie became combative. She had to be restrained for her and the baby’s safety. After a CT scan, we were quickly given the news that Lexie had an (AVM) Arteriovenous Malformation; a weakened blood vessel that may burst, spilling blood into the brain.
Our worst fear, she 25 with a brain bleed and 22 weeks pregnant. At that point, the Neuro Surgeon advised us that it would be best if Lexie was intubated and put on the ventilator. They were not sure at that point how much oxygen she and the baby were receiving.
After getting her to a stable point the doctors decided on an Angiogram. The doctors finished the procedure and told us the bleeding had stopped on its own, however, due to swelling in the brain, they could not find the source of where the bleeding came from. Eventually, after multiple CT scans around the clock, the Neuro Surgeon told us that the site of the bleed was VERY close to her brain stem and at this time there was nothing more they could do at this point. The only thing we had going was her age and good health.
But they didn’t know OUR Lexie!
Since then our girl has shown the doctors here that with prayers and a village behind you, anything is possible. Every day is more progression. Each day she is getting better. On day 1 a machine was breathing for her and 7 days later she is feeding herself and talking soft sentences.
Lexie’s pregnancy has not been affected in any way thus far. Our Haisley Ann is still going strong with a beautiful heartbeat and the doctors say as long as Lexie is healing and on the way to recovery, our baby girl needs to continue to bake in the belly!
With all of this, Lexie will not be returning to work for now. She will be in the hospital and will have a long road to recovery which will include radiation, physical therapy and lots of follow-up appointments.
All donations will be for medical expenses and bills accumulating at home.
Thanks to everyone in advance,
