Medical expenses for Margi Pomeroy

My name is Michelle and I am raising funds for my mother, Margi Pomeroy. Margi went into Strong Memorial for a heart valve replacement January 26, 2023. During surgery, she was alert under “local anesthesia” but at the end of the surgery she alerted the doctor to extreme chest pressure and within minutes was unable to speak, move her left side or follow commands. She was rushed to CT where they found her aorta was dissected, causing her to stroke and bleed internally. She was then immediately prepared for emergency 6-8 hour open heart surgery. She was intubated and placed on a cardiopulmonary bypass machine. Margi stayed on the vent in CICU for 8 days where it was unknown her status would be until she came off the vent. The next day, Friday morning, it noticed that her carotid artery additionally had dissected and underwent another surgery to fix the repair. 3 surgeries, CICU, the vent, dozens of IVs, pick lines etc, it was touch and go until she was finally able to be extubated.

She has spent the last 6 weeks in the neurological rehab unit in Strong but has been unable to eat. The stroke has caused issues with swallowing so her fourth, and hopefully final surgery, took place March 15 to put a permanent feeding tube in her stomach. While able to slowly participate in physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy, she has not fully regained the strength needed to go home at this point. Fortunately, she is able to speak, walk with assistance, follow commands and has regained some use of her left side but from the stroke she suffers tremors in her arm and leg. Her medical bills are excruciating and will be piling up.

Modifications to access her home (ramp with railings) will be needed as well as interior adjustments should she be able to return home which is the utmost goal.
