Medical Expenses for Minhee (April) Kim
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Ashna Sandoze and one of my closest friends Minhee has spent the last several months in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) battling Guillain-Barré syndrome that has not only taken a toll on her health, but the well being of her family as well.
It all began in January 2022 when Minhee was hospitalized for inexplicable symptoms of migraine and eye pain, but she was quickly discharged upon testing positive for COVID-19. However, as she recovered from COVID, the condition of her health deteriorated.
After another hospital visit, it was determined that her immune system suffered an attack from a virus most likely triggered by COVID which subsequently caused significant nerve damage. As a result, she lost all mobility from the shoulders down and needed to be cared for in the ICU. What began as a migraine quickly left Minhee almost completely paralyzed.
With lost mobility, she became dependent on an oxygen ventilator to help her breathe so her lungs could heal. After several weeks in the ICU, Minhee underwent a tracheostomy to increase the amount of oxygen delivered to her lungs, followed by a laparoscopic surgery to relocate her feeding tube.
Through extensive surgeries, treatments, and therapies over the past three months Minhee is slowly recovering. The road to full recovery is long and the family will need all the support they can get.
All the money raised will go to her family to help with all the medical expenses. We are eternally grateful for all of the support and we sincerely thank you for taking the time to read Minhee’s story.
