Medical expenses for my mom, Belen.

Hi, everyone. My name is Katrisse Angeles. Many of you know my mom, Belen Magbitang Angeles, has been sick for quite awhile now. She’s been on dialysis for almost 2 years now and recently in September had a triple bypass heart surgery. Unfortunately, about a month after that procedure the doctors discovered that 2 out of the 3 bypasses weren’t working. Therefore, they ended up placing stents. If any of you know my mom, you know she’s fighter. She pulled through and was recovering. In October, the doctors saw that fluid was building up in her lungs and made the decision to put in a chest tube to drain the fluid. They had to do this a couple times because every time they thought they removed all the fluid, my mom would start to build it up again. My mom was finally released from the hospital to a nursing rehabilitation facility to begin working on physical and occupational therapy, since she had been bed bound for a long period of time. This Monday, Dec 4, my mom was taken from dialysis to the hospital because of low oxygen levels and difficulty breathing. At the hospital, my mom was coded twice. The first time her heart stopped, it took the ER team 30 minutes to revive her and get a pulse. My mom coded a second time and that’s when the doctors decided to sedate and intubate her, which brings us to her current state. She is in the ICU and is still intubated. She responds to sounds around her, like looking around and grabbing your hand. She sometimes nods her head if she is asked a question. The doctors stated the she is currently in multi-organ failure. My family and I have made the difficult decision that the best thing for my mom is to bring her home and be placed on hospice. However, due to my mom receiving dialysis, the hospice nurse expressed that hospice will not cover dialysis. We are trying our best to make sure that we will be financially stable if we have to pay out of pocket for my mom’s medical expenses. Also, when the time comes for her burial and memorial services, we want to make sure she is layed to rest according to her wishes. I know that the holidays are a difficult time financially for everyone and anything truly helps. To our friends and family, we appreciate all of you.
