Help Nova Keep Fighting and Celebrate Lisa's Life

Dear friends, family, and community,
I am reaching out to you to let you know we are starting a campaign to help provide Dahveed Kolodny-Nagy some financial relief as his daughter Nova continues to fight for her life in the ICU, as well as to help to fund a funeral to celebrate the life of his wife, Lisa Mao. On February 4, 2021, a horrible tragedy struck the Kolodny-Nagy family as they celebrated Nova’s fourth birthday in the snow at Mount Baldy. At the end of a joyful day, all three of them collided head first into a gigantic boulder while sledding. Lisa took the brunt of the impact while trying her best to shield her husband and daughter; tragically, she lost her life shortly after the impact. Nova was knocked unconscious with severe damage to her skull, brain, eyes, collar, liver, and a broken arm. Dahveed did everything humanly possible to both resuscitate his beloved wife and care for his wounded daughter. Rescuers heard his calls and airlifted the two loves of his life to the hospital. To say that this has had a major physical/emotional/spiritual impact on Dahveed would be the understatement of a lifetime; he is remaining strong and focused on being by his baby girl’s side as she continues to fight for her life in a medically induced coma.
Lisa did not have any life insurance at the time of her death and the last thing we want for Dahveed to worry about right now, is the inevitable financial stress of a funeral for his wife, or the high cost of medical treatments for his precious daughter Nova. Although Lisa is no longer with us, she helped build a lasting community of support for her husband and beautiful little girl. Let’s all rally around them now, cover them with our love, prayers, and monetary offerings to help them through this difficult time.
As of now we have a goal to raise $25,000 for both Lisa’s funeral and for Nova’s recovery not just in the hospital, but for continued healing and treatment care after. There is too much swelling in Nova’s brain right now for the doctors to know how much damage was done to her beautiful mind. Updates we receive from her father, will dictate whether we raise our goal amount. This event has been a nightmare for Dahveed, it took a lot for him to provide the details of this tragic event, and to keep doing so, is too much for him to bear at this time. Please keep this in mind as we continue offering him our condolences and continued support. Thank you so much.
