Medical expenses for professor

Donation protected
Dear friends,
Donna L. Franklin has been diagnosed with numerous chronic illnesses over the past twenty years. These diagnoses include asthma, multiple sclerosis, and third stage breast.
She refers to this period in her life as the ‘dark night of her soul.’ By now you’re probably wondering why has she had so many chronic illnesses? There’s no history of cancer, MS, or asthma in her family.
A rigorous research study recently conducted at UCLA’s School of Medicine has found that high levels of unremitting stress are the antecedent to a diagnosis with a catastrophic illness. We believe Dr. Franklin could have been Exhibit A for this study.
After earning her Ph.D. from USC as a single parent, she accepted her first academic appointment at the University of Chicago as an Assistant Professor. She was the first African-American woman appointed to this position in the university’s history.
She remained there for twelve years and during her tenure at the U of Chicago there were more Nobel laureates on its faculty than any other American university.
She was the Co-Investigator of a $5 million research grant to study family structure and poverty. Her book Ensuring Inequality emerged from this research project which then won the ASA’s Wm. J. Goode Distinguished Book Award. She was the first African-American author to win this award.
When the Washington Post reviewed her award-winning book, it was described as “the most important book written on the black family in recent years.” After being promoted to Associate Professor, she accepted the John Milner Professorship at USC.
Last but not least, she was the first national Co-Chair of the Council on Contemporary Families. The CCF is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to providing the press and public with the latest research and best-practice findings about American families.
Founded in 1996, the Council’s mission is to enhance the national understanding of how and why contemporary families are changing, what needs and challenges they face, and how these needs can best be met.
There’s good news. She’s currently cancer free even though she fought cancer from a wheelchair.
There’s also bad news. When she was at the pinnacle of her career, Dr. Franklin made a decision to leave academic life to focus on her health. In that she was a divorced woman, the financial consequences were devastating.
Her Harvard-trained neurologist with a specialty in MS recently took another MRI and discovered that the progression of the disease has slowed if not ended altogether. After evaluating the MRI, he asserted that the most promising breakthrough for those plagued with MS is stem cell therapy.
The cost of the stem cell therapy is $20,000 and it is not covered by her insurance. The goal of this fundraising drive is $20,000.
The prayer of this committee is that each and every person reading this post will be able to donate something to sustain her infinite potential. NO gift is too small.
Thanking you in advance for your contribution.
