Medical Expenses for the Carman Family

Our sweet little boy was diagnosed with a "Dandy-Walker Malformation" during our anatomy scan. This meant a cyst formed where the vermis would connect the cerebellum in the brain. Often this diagnosis comes with a slew of other diagnoses, chromosomal deficiencies, and hydrocephalus. The most significant piece is that it is unknown until the baby is born what kind of problems can occur. So we went into the unknown, monitoring fluid build-up in the ventricles, and everything was stable throughout the pregnancy.

Our sweet Judah Alexander was born 03/19/22, weighing 7lbs 5.5oz 21.5in. Unfortunately, having difficulty breathing, he was admitted to the NICU at that point. Tests confirmed the Dandy-Walker, a brain bleed, and Atrial septal defect (ASD, hole in his heart). We were encouraged to perform genetic testing, which showed us that Judah has a chromosome 3p deletion. Judah struggled to obtain nutrition, and to get him home we decided to have him get a G-Tube. During this time, I developed a pulmonary embolism and was quickly admitted to a separate hospital for 3 (very long) days. Judah was discharged once I was released on, ironically enough on “Good Friday”. A three-month follow-up MRI showed that he had a build-up of fluid (hydrocephalus) in his ventricles, which meant that he would require surgery. His doctor performed an endoscopic third ventriculostomy which popped a hole to allow for the fluid to drain. A follow up MRI has shown that the procedure is working so we don’t have to return until February.

At this point, Judah has many doctors following his care. He still has the ASD and has surgery coming up in a few weeks through urology. We don't know what the future holds for this little man, and much of this journey has been unexpected for us, and the medical bills have started piling up. We don't like asking for help. This is not us. But we are trying to do right by this life that God has given us. Judah is doing his part by improving each and every day. Anything you can donate will be helpful for us in paying off this accruing medical debt to ensure that we can continue to provide for his needs.

We love you all! Thank you for your continued prayers!
