Medical Expenses for the Edelblute’s

Hi, my name is Molly Edelblute and I have started this GoFundMe for medical expenses, travel expenses and hotel stay for my family in a gut wrenchingly difficult time.

On Christmas morning, 2023, my brother, Nathan Edelblute, was on his way to work when he was involved in an absolutely horrific car accident. My brother is a Corrections Officer at SCI Smithfield Prison in Pennsylvania. After spending the night wrapping presents, he started his drive to work at 3am. After a night of very little sleep, trying to make Christmas the most special for their 3 year old son, Levi, Nathan fell asleep behind the wheel, rolling the car several times.

Nathan was extricated and transported to UPMC Altoona by EMS, and then promptly flown to UPMC Presbyterian for emergency surgery. Jordan, his incredible wife, was told the best case scenario is that he makes it out of surgery alive.

Nathan suffered unstable fractures C1-C4 in his neck. This left my brother, a hard working, loving husband and the BEST father, paralyzed from the chest down.

Nathan underwent a very long, yet successful surgery last night upon their arrival at UPMC Presby. He is still intubated, and receiving neuro checks every so often. He has so many tubes and wires coming from his body, he’s nearly unrecognizable. The only thing for certain right now, is that he has feeling in his hands, following the surgery. This is only the beginning.

While I was talking to Jordan, her comment to me was “life as we know it is gone, but we will adjust. We will still have him.” Knowing the severity of her husband’s injuries, and remaining optimistic has been keeping us all floating. She is a true depiction of strength and resilience, and I am so glad my brother has her to push through this life with.

Nathan and his son are constantly going fishing. It’s their absolute favorite thing to do together. We will be absolutely sure, wheelchair and all, that Nate makes it to the water with his boy, and their fishing rods, in due time.

Jordan works in an elementary school, but needs to be in Pittsburgh as much as possible to be by her husband’s side. My brother will remain in the ICU for quite a while, as there will be many more surgeries to come.

This fundraiser is to help with nearby hotel stays for Jordan and her extremely supportive side of the family, travel expenses for the 2 hour drives from Altoona to Pittsburgh, and the rapidly increasing medical bills.
