We have never wanted to ask for help but our love for our pups is like no other. Remington is our 3 year old Golden Retriever who has been healthy and happy since we got him. On Thursday he got excited to see my in laws and when he was coming back inside he started gasping for air. We knew something wasn’t right, right away so we called our vet. It turns out that Remmy has Chylothroax which is 4 times more common in cats and is not typically found in his breed at all. They drained 700mL from his chest that day and asked us to come back 2 days later. When we came back, they noticed much more fluid and sent us to a specialist who ended up draining 2.5 Liters of Chyle. Chyle is lymphatic fluid that can leak into the thoracic cavity which will suppress the lungs and the heart and prevent him from breathing. The causes of this condition could be heart disease, cancer or idiopathic which means they cannot find a cause at all. In all of these cases, they recommend surgery. Which surgery is never a guarantee to fix the problem, but we want to try everything we can to help save him. They don’t recommend draining the fluid regularly because this can cause scar tissue to build up and fluid pockets to form in the thoracic cavity which will then just suppress the lungs and heart. Remmy has to go in for a CT scan and an Echocardiogram on Monday and then we will sit down and talk to the surgeon about the surgeries that will be performed. Either way, the procedures will cost $1000’s and $1000’s and we are asking if you can help in anyway.
