Help Fritz Sam, Local Uber Hero with Medical Fees

Donation protected
On the morning of August 17th, 2022, I was in an Uber to La Guardia Airport when we drove by a burning brownstone. Without hesitation, my Uber driver Fritz Sam leapt out of the car and into the building, saving two tenants, hollering till the fire trucks came, then got right back in and zipped me to the airport in time to catch my flight.

My tweet about the incident went viral, and the story has since been covered by CNN , Today, NBC, CBS, USA TODAY, PEOPLE, Washington Post, and many other news outlets, including viral online channels like Good News Movement and Upworthy.

Since then, Uber has named Fritz a Hometown Hero in their first ever Uber Yearbook, and offered to cover his vehicle rental fees for a year. But we can do more. Fritz has warmed hearts and inspired hope all over the nation, and I've been overwhelmed with people reaching out to me to ask how we can help Fritz, or show him love. As shared with USA Today, his parents were both drivers too, but his mother had to stop working after her stage four cancer diagnosis. Ever since, Fritz, who lives in a one-bedroom apartment with his family of four, has been driving not only to support his family, but to help with her medical bills.

After years of battling breast cancer and surgery, the metastatic breast cancer has spread to her spine and bones. Due to financial pressure from the bills racking up, she was working all the way till last month, when the pain became unbearable. At present, Fritz's mother is hospitalized for radiation treatment, and they're praying that it'll go well so that she can come home.

As someone who was a first-hand witness to Fritz's selfless, wonderful heart, I know that his act of bravery was born of pure goodness and moral fiber. If his story has moved you, please know that any contributions towards this GoFundMe will go towards helping Fritz with his mother's medical fees and supporting his family.

We appreciate any help as he has a long journey ahead. Thank you for reading this!
