Life Saving Treatment for Janet Bett-Karoney
Janet (Our sister, friend, colleague) was recently diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anaemia, this is a life threatening condition where the bone marrow stops producing sufficient blood for the body to keep functioning well. The doctors have recommended that the best cure for this condition is a stem cell transplant (sometimes also referred to as Bone Marrow Transplant) from a matching donor. Unfortunately, stem cell transplant procedure is not available in Kenya, where Janet currently lives and she will need to travel abroad for the treatment. We have identified a hospital and doctor in India and have started preparations for her to travel for treatment. Her siblings have been tested to check if any of them is a suitable donor and awaiting results. Alternative treatment is also available in India (with a lower success rate) that could be administered in the interim if none of the siblings is a match and a global non-related donor will be sort.
Janet is currently requiring regular blood and platelet transfusions approx every 8 to 10 days to enable her to maintain optimal blood counts. However, too many blood transfusions may impact success of the stem cell transplant, thus we are planning for Janet to travel as soon as possible to enable prerequisite testing and chemotherapy treatment required for stem cell transplant to be started.
The cost of the treatment (including travel & accommodation) is approx Kshs. 10million (~GBP £65,000/AUD125,000) and will take 4 -6 months before she can return back to Kenya.
We have created this page as her family & friends to help raise funds to get her the treatment she urgently needs. We know recent times have been really tough on all but any little you can donate will be greatly appreciated and will help towards getting her treatment and back home to her family. Please also help by sharing this page with others.

A little about Janet:
For those who don’t know Janet, She is 31yrs old, the 4th born in our family and always jovial and bubbly. Most of the time you meet or talk to her she is always laughing or giggling and always lifts the mood in any room. She is super kind hearted almost to a fault and cares deeply for all around her. She is married to Brian Karoney and together they have 1 adorable daughter Nemie who is 20months old. She is absolutely broken about having to be away from her daughter for so long, when she is so little, but also determined to get treatment so she can get better and come back to be able to play with Nemie and see her grow up.
Thank you so much to those who have already donated we are overwhelmed by your support.
