Medical Fund for Kaylee
Donation protected
Kaylee is a freshman at the University of Houston majoring in Theatre Education. She’s working towards her BFA in Theatre with a teaching certification in secondary education. She enjoys Broadway musicals, the Houston Zoo, all things Disney, Italian food, the Frio River, and spending time with her family and the love of her life, her cat Wendy.
Kaylee underwent surgery in October for an ovarian cyst removal. Unfortunately, her right ovary was enveloped in a mass which prompted her surgeon to remove her right ovary along with her fallopian tube. Unbeknownst to her, she was suffering from ovarian cancer in the form of a low malignant tumor.
At this time her gynecological oncologist and gynecologist recommended surveillance of the cancer. This will include ultrasounds and blood work every three months for the foreseeable future with another surgery at some point. The surgery date is TBD as it is dependent on when the malignant cells begin to form again. Her oncologist assured her they would, it’s just a matter of time. Her medical team also advocated for the harvesting and freezing of eggs, ensuring her chances of having children of her own in the future. She met with a fertility doctor and the process has been initiated.
Kaylee's medical team has stated repeatedly that her pain was a blessing. The surgery to remove an ovarian cyst, ultimately taking her ovary and fallopian tube, was life-saving. They were able to identify the cancer early and she will not have to undergo chemotherapy. She gets to keep the rest of her reproductive system for now. Kaylee and her family are extremely grateful for this silver lining.
However, her ongoing treatment, surgeries, medical expenses, oncology appointments, ultrasounds, blood work, fertility appointments, and medication will put a financial strain on this beautiful young woman, just as she starts out on her own in the world. During a time when she could be focused in her studies, college life, and her first taste of independence, Kaylee is instead faced with the physical, emotional and financial burdens of her medical issues. She will be assisted by the LiveStrong Foundation as well as the Heartbeat Foundation, however, current and future medical bills that will not be covered are estimated to total $30,000 or more.
Please consider donating in any amount you can toward Kaylee's medical fund. Let's help free her of the financial pressures so that she can focus on healing the physical and emotional wounds and get back to enjoying her freshman year of college!
All funds donated (minus any fees that are collected by GoFundMe) will be sent directly from GoFundMe to Kaylee for application to her medical debts, both current and future.
This fundraiser was set up by her cousin/aunt, Kristen Young, in hopes of helping her soul-beautiful niece during a most challenging time. Please direct any questions regarding this fundraiser to Mrs. Young.
