Tom and Mary Hickman of Lubbock, Texas, need our help so that Mary can welcome their new little granddaughter into the world in March. Mary is fighting an aggressive cancer. Since receiving a diagnosis of advanced cancer last April, she has been going through extensive treatments. Despite their diligent preparation against the possibility of a catastrophic health event, the scope of medical costs has gone beyond that anticipated, even for such a prepared and disciplined financial manager as Tom.
For 20 years, they paid on a policy for a fixed sum to be paid upon cancer diagnosis. They had thought it would cover most out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered by health insurance. However, those expenses have already exceeded three times that policy coverage! In addition, Mary has twice been hospitalized in life-threatening emergency situations requiring medical intervention to save her life. Those emergency hospitalizations incurred costs well beyond what insurance covers. Jan. 1st, along with the New Year comes a new deductible and, thanks to the ACA, a new premium to pay which is 60% higher than last year.
Mary is valiantly keeping up her battle, determined to hold that new grandbaby. Mary has given so much service helping others around her. She has been a dynamic and influential force in the lives of her family and community of friends. We can’t begin to repay her many kindnesses. As friends and family, we want this opportunity to help. Over the last year Mary used her considerable art talents to write and craft fabulous artwork into a beautiful picture storybook dedicated to grandson Gibson. Mary has lovingly provided copies of this limited edition full-color, delightfully illustrated book to be given to the first ten donors of $100 or more. At this time of Christmas gift-giving, it would make a cherished gift for a special child in your life. Through this book you will also come to know the gentle, kind person that is Mary.
In these times of tragedies and world-wide disasters, Tom and Mary express their concern that no funds are diverted from other causes that you may be considering gifting, but they appreciate your thoughtful giving which expresses love, caring and encouragement for them.
