Mother loses ability to walk and undergoes two spinal surgeries
Shohna Shaver is a 29 year old single mother who gave birth to her first child in February of this year. For most mothers this is the beginning of a new and exciting adventure. However, her delivery was far from easy and her journey after left her physically disabling - one medical hurdle at a time. From learning how to walk again to multiple back surgeries, please listen to her story.
Shohna had femoral nerve damage while delivering 9 lb 7 oz Kira Rose, leaving her in a wheel chair the first 4 months of Kira's life.
Its hard to imagine not being able to walk with your child in your arms, to stand up and rock her to sleep, the struggle to get a bottle or change her diaper....
Shohna cared for her child when she needed to be cared for. Her will to be a good mother out powered her physical disabilities.
Shohna went on to do physical therapy 3 times a week month after month until she could stand on her own. From standing on her own she strengthened her muscles so she could safely and FINALLY hold her baby standing up.
Being a single mother, Shohna needed to return back to work to maintain a stable life for her and her daughter and keep a house they now make a happy home. After pushing through the physical challenges, and recovering from not being able to walk.. She is now undergoing multiple back surgeries (derived from her delivery) that will leave her unable to work for some time.
Please help Shohna get through this tough time. This is her and Kira's first time experiencing the holidays together as a family. May this help her and Kira through a little easier. Thank you.
