Medical Fundraiser for Sandy Telfer

Hello Everyone,

Our dear friend Sandy Telfer who is a mother, and wife is presently going through a very hard time. She has battled MS for the last 12 years and now has been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. She has been travelling back and forth to Victoria Hospital in London for testing and diagnosis. Due to the location, size and aggressiveness of this form of cancer the surgery would currently be too extensive on her face. A treatment was recommended by the surgical team in London to try to reduce the size of the tumor. This treatment is called immunotherapy where an IV is given for the mnimum of four treatments, once every 4 weeks. Depending on the effectiveness of the treatment more may be required. The hope is to shrink the tumour small enough to be able to complete a surgery that will not be too extensive. A request was made to OHIP for approval and was denied due to the expense. The cost of each treatment is $8,200.00. and with a minimum of four treatments the total is $32,800.00 which her and her husband are solely responsible for.

Once the treatments are done then surgery will be required. Then six weeks of radiation, five

days a week in London. This will require her to stay in London during the week and come home on weekends. The cost of hotel, food and gas for 6 weeks is an added expense.

Sandy is one of the most thoughtful and kind people and we are blessed to have her in our lives. We would love to help her and her husband get through this very difficult time by assisting with this financial burden.
