Medical Help for Pamela Foster (Pam)

My name is Marilou Bell and I worked with Pam at the Wuesthoff Reference Lab at Rockledge, Fl for several years. She has been a very dear friend and in spite of the years we have not seen each other, we have kept in constant contact. A few years ago, my husband and I moved back to Florida to retire so that Pam and I were able to renew our close friendship.

During our very recent Wuesthoff Lab Reunion in April, many heard of the unhappy announcement that Pam Foster was struck with ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a disease with progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain.

Those who knew Pam while working in the lab can tell you she was a vibrant and very positive person who always had a smile on her face. Pam was very well liked and quite dedicated to her job and to the people she worked with. For

8 years, she performed the WRL billing while working on a nursing degree. One of the many positive qualities she possesses is her empathy for others, which clearly suited her desire to be a nurse. She subsequently worked at the Wuesthoff hospital units, doctors' offices, and cared for private patients.

On August 2021, Pam was diagnosed with ALS. Her disease has progressed to the point that she is unable to walk without a walker, and sometimes not walk at all. It is quite heart rending when she tells me that sometimes she has to crawl because she is unable to move her legs at all. As the disease progressess, she will eventually require medical devices to help her mobility, accommodations to her physical living condition, and most importantly, with her medical bills. Every visit to her neurologist is $380, and without good health coverage, her expenses will undoubtedly mount up. Just to let you know, government assistance has been explored but unfortunately not been granted. For privacy reasons, we cannot mention the reasons for the rejection.
