My wife Debi was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, there are 5 spots on her skin. 1 spot on her nose, 3 different spots on her arms and the major one is the upper arm and shoulder. We were reffered to a specialist in dermatology and it was recommended that she use an immunotherapy drug, Erivedge (it is in the class of chemo therapy with similar side effects). After several months it looked promising and she continued the drug for about 17 months. During a washout of the drug (stopped taking it for 2 months, advised by her doctor) the cancer came back with a vengence. It got very aggresive and we had to see a specialist in Louisville KY, 275 miles from home. We went to him in February for a diagnosis and then in March we went to start an in office procedure. The cancer had spread to the muscle and in office was not possible. He reffered us to an oncologist/surgeon in downtown Louisville. He told us to get there asap so that he could take a look. Debi was scheduled for surgery the next morning. What started out as a 50 cent piece size to be removed had spread to a slightly larger that 9 inches by 9 inches down to the muscle. He is confident that he got all the cancer from that spot and did a skin graft to help the healing and appearance on the spot. The other spots are not as aggressive as the one on her shoulder and will be taken care of after healing of the main one.
This has resulted in multiple trips and hotel stays in Louisville. We are looking at about 10 more trips starting in early April for more surgery and other treatments. I do have decent insurance and so far they are paying what they are supposed to towards all the medical bills . We need this done because come January I will lose my health insurance and be forced to medicare, Debi is younger than me so I will be looking for insurance for her.
I am retired and was working at a used car lot. I sold 1 car in November and nothing since and I worked on strict commission. The owner of the lot decided to liquidate the inventory in the first week of March and closed the lot.
At this time it was kind of a blessing because I am able to take care of Debi 24/7. She needs the help because she is not allowed to use the arm with the surgery at all. She needs help to get up and down and I do all the housework and cooking. I am very happy to do whatever it takes, I just want her cured.
All of the expenses has absolutely depleted our savings and we are now behind several house payments and other bills. The 5000.00 we are hoping to raise will get us ahead on the mortgage and caught up on other bills.
We are needing to get the first half of this as quickly as possible to get our house out of the danger of forclosure.
Debi is having a hard time dealing with this because she feels it is all her fault, I have assured her that there is no one to blame and we will put this in God's hands and I will remain confident that He will see that our needs are met.
I want to thank everyone in advance for taking the time to read this and for considering whether to donate or not, May you all be blessed.
