Medical Masks for Kenya

My name is David Brown and I live in Minnesota in the US. I am working in collaboration with my friend Daniel Mbugua who is the owner of Bigfoot Adventures in Nairobi Kenya and we are trying to raise money for surgical style masks for the people who live in two of the largest slums in the world located in Kenya. One of the biggest issues in the slums is the impossible task of social distancing and due to that these people are at high risk of the spread of the COVID19 Virus. In Kenya all residents are required to wear masks if they are going to be in public. They need to wear these masks for travel to and from work. If they do not have them they may be fined or worse thrown in jail. One mask costs approximately $2 US. Most of the people in the slums are lucky to make that in a day let alone buy a mask. We will be employing women in Kibera while they are being quarantined to help in making these masks. Here are some statistics for Kibera which is one of the slums: Kibera Facts & Information. There are approximatly 2.5 million slum dwellers in about 200 settlements in Nairobi representing 60% of the Nairobi population and occupying just 6% of the land. Kibera houses about 250,000 of these people. Kibera is the biggest slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. Now Gazetted (Printed in Kenya newspapers): It's a 20,000 KSH ($200 US) fine, 6 months in jail or both for not having a mask in a private or public vehicle. Again these funds raised will be used to produce and deliver the masks necessary to aid the people in the slums from catching or spreading the COVID19 virus and allow them to also work.
