Medical Need Fundraiser for Ben Grubb

Ben’s journey began back in 2012, when he began experiencing mysterious symptoms that the doctors could not explain. It took quite some time after seeing multiple specialists to finally get a diagnosis. He was diagnosed with a rare chronic autoimmune disease that relentlessly progresses. This disease affects less than 1% of the population, and there is currently no cure. Treatment for this disease is limited and most options are experimental. Severity is typically described according to three Hurley categories, stage three being the worse stage of the disease in which surgical intervention is the only treatment option. Ben attempted several treatments but the disease did not respond successfully to any of those treatments and he ended up having his first surgery in 2016.
After his first surgery, Ben experienced major complications and ended up in the ICU. The recovery from that surgery was extensive and it was a full year before his wounds had healed enough for Ben to use his arms normally. Ben continued to pursue further treatment through immunosuppressant medications to hopefully avoid more surgery; however in 2018, he had to undergo a second surgery in a different location than before. He was once again met with complications after that surgery and had to endure yet another drawn out recovery time. Earlier this year, following his recovery from the second surgery, he began an IV infusion immunosuppressant drug therapy that showed some success, but it has not been enough to stop the progression of his disease unfortunately.
Ben is now facing a third surgery scheduled for October 30th. He is in constant, debilitating pain. This surgery in particular has been described as barbaric by the medical community. Driving, walking around, or even standing has become almost impossible for any length of time. Due to this fact, Ben is no longer able to work or do much of the things in life he enjoys doing. With Ben being off work, he is unable to make ends meet with his wife’s income only and they have mounting medical bills from the previous two surgeries making their financial situation even more difficult. He cannot qualify for short term or long term disability at this time. Anyone who knows Ben and his wife, Ryan knows that their hearts are always ready to give and help others. The purpose of this GoFundMe is not to gain sympathy. What Ben and his family really need is financial assistance to help them through this difficult season. Any amount would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone who gives, you will never know how much it means to them.
