I was diagnosed with cancer in my left eye on Oct 3rd. I thought it was a scratch on my cornea and was shocked when I received the diagnoses. Choroidal Melanoma is similar to skin cancer but occurs within the eye. It has been a scramble since the diagnoses to make sure it has not spread anywhere elsewhere. My CT scan showed that my lungs and liver the most common places it spreads to are cancer free. My vision is impaired in my left eye which is straining my other eye. The surgery to remove the cancer involves inserting a plaque with radiation beads over the tumor. The plaque is left there for one week and then surgically removed. There is an 85% chance this will eliminate the cancer but it is not without risks. During the plaque insertion I cannot be around anyone as I will be radioactive. I have been warned that I will be out of work for 2 weeks possibly more depending on how quickly I heal. This is going to cause a financial hardship for me because I will not have enough vacation time to cover the time needed for the many pre surgery and post surgery appointments required not to mention the copays & out of pocket expenses not covered by insurance. My long term disability will only kick in if I am out of work for 3 months. I would be forever grateful for any financial help you can offer.
