My name is Yasmine El-Assadi, I am a 5' tall, spunky California girl whose dreams are vastly larger than my height. I spent a majority of my life in Sunny Southern California, in Costa Mesa where I attended high school. It was in those school halls and classrooms where my passion for science and medicine first began to develop. It developed into a passion that immediately became a fire that was only fueled in my attendence at Baylor University where I will graduate with a BS in Neuroscience in May. I am so thankful for what this school has taught me in believing that anything is possible and showing me that I can achieve what I set my mind to. Which for me has meant, being a founding member of the Baylor Neuorscience Society, active members in MAPS, MSO, and an ER assistant at the Providence Heatlthcare Center in Waco. Through all of that business, this year has been the busiest yet most eventful to say the least. However, it is quickly becoming one of the most memorable years of my life. Four years ago, when I began my time at Baylor Univeristy all I could dream about was attending medical school and for four years now I have fervently pursued my dream of attending medical school. I can now officially say that dream has come true. While I have not made an official decision of where I will be attending, the two schools I am currently deciding between- Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, each have steep deposits to secure my place among the other future doctors. I chose osteopathic medicine after completing various summer internships with osteopathic phsyicians. I found that through their mode of thinking and healing I saw a similarity in my own throught process: the spectacular amazement of what our body can do, and how it can heal itself with correct guidance, the fascination of the unknowing nature that still engulfs human phsyiology, and lastly and most importantly, the passion to see those who are hurting restored to a normal life. These funds will be deposited to either Burrell or WVSOM to secure my place for the entering class and towards my first semester at either school. Due to the nature of the appliaction process, my deposit ad Burrell is due by December 9th, and WVSOM is due December 15th. I realize that is a short amount of time for what I am considering my own Christmas miracle. I would be eternally grateful for any help you would be willing to provide. If you cannot provide financially, I welcome your thoughts and prayers as I embark on this life changing journey. Thank you.
