Medical Supplies for Kibera Slums and Western Kenya
Donation protected
My name is Julie Witmer and I'm a midwife in Toronto. I will be travelling to Kenya at the end of August where I will be volunteering for one month in medical and midwifery clinics. I am reaching out to you to raise money to buy much needed medical equipment and school supplies for these very underserved communities. 100% of the financial donations will be going directly to the purchase of these supplies. (We are paying for our own flights and accommodations)
My daughters Kate and Emma and our good friends Lyndsay and Isla will be joining me for the first two weeks. They will be volunteering in schools in Kibera, where they will be teaching math, playing soccer with the kids and helping out with the lunch programs. Some of the funds we raise will go towards buying school supplies for these children.
I will be working with the midwives in the slums for these first two weeks attending deliveries, providing prenatal and postpartum care and delivering maternity kits to new mothers.
I will then be flying out to Muhuru Bay in Western Kenya by the Tanzanian border for the second two weeks. I will be working with midwives and doctors in a small medical clinic, which delivers 40 babies a month and has roughly an 80% survival rate. The clinic is in desperate need of basic medical supplies.
We are also asking for donations of medical supplies that we can bring with us. Please reach out to me if you have any medical supplies that are in excellent condition and no longer needed, even if it is not on the requested list below. We will be bringing 5 extra suitcases with us for these supplies. (If you have an old suitcase that is no longer needed, please let us know as well!) We are also looking to bring kids backpacks, toothbrushes, school supplies, soccer balls, volleyballs and air pumps (etc).
