Urgent COVID-19 Medical Supplies for Placencia
Help Us Bring Vital Medical Equipment to Placencia
The citizens of the Placencia Peninsula in Belize are in desperate need of medical equipment to help them fight COVID-19. Presently, there are no oxygen concentrators in the village. Oxygen concentrators provide continuous oxygen to sick patients struggling to breathe. Without this vital medical equipment, potentially hundreds of villagers could become vulnerable if infected with COVID-19 and could more likely die.
Right now, the only COVID-19 Isolation Ward on the Placencia Peninsula in Belize is operated by Dr. Alexis Caballero. For fifteen years, Dr. Alexis has served the community providing general medical care. Since the COVID crisis, he has graciously opened his clinic and his newly constructed Isolation Unit to all in need.
A Tragic Loss of Twin Brother Physicians
The fight against COVID-19 in the village suffered a tragic loss on the weekend of December 14, 2020, when twin brother physicians, Drs. Kevin and Kenneth Guerra (aged 33) succumbed to COVID-19 just days apart. The impact of this loss has left Dr. Alexis with the overwhelming responsibility of being the only doctor in the Village.
