Dear Family and Friends,
The last 7 days have been a nightmare. Within 32 hours both my mom and brother have been hospitalized in critical condition and both have had 2 emergency surgeries.
We received a call at 930a on September 13th that our mom Thelma Marin Ureta who lives in Albasan, Numancia, Aklan, Philippines, was vomiting and had a high blood pressure. The local hospital diagnosed her with a Hemorrhagic Stroke. On Sept 14th she was transported via ambulance with a physician for Neurosurgeon intervention at Iloilo Mission Hospital, a 3 hour drive. Upon arrival an emergency evaluation was done and on Sept 15th she went into emergency surgery for a Ventriculostomy. After the surgery our mom continued to bleed from her ventricles/brain. Due to the continuous bleeding they did another surgery last night. We are praying she will stabilize and start to recover.
On Sept 14th at 400p our brother, Richard Marin Ureta, who lives with us in California, complained of a bad headache and had high blood pressure. We were driving to Urgent Care when he started to vomit. Upon arrival at Urgent Care he was instructed to go to the emergency room because of his symptoms. When he arrived at the Emergency Room an Emergency CT was done to find he had a bleed. Another CT was done hours later, this time with a contrast and the results showed that he needed an Emergency Cerebral Angiogram which was done that evening. The next morning, Sept. 15th, he appeared to be recovering but by the afternoon appeared to be lethargic and was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus. He was reintubated and had another emergency surgery at 6p for a Ventriculostomy insertion with a drain. Last night we were able to talk to him through FaceTime (we can’t visit him in the hospital due to Covid-19 restrictions) and he appears to be doing a little better. We pray that he is now on the road to recovery without further complications.
In the Philippines everything is paid with cash. With all the medical bills piling up for our Nanay (mom) and brother we would be very grateful for any financial support. My sister, Maruja, is the only one who has been working and supporting our Mom in the Philippines, my brother and my family and I here. I unfortunately have been furloughed since March due to Covid-19.
Our family is appreciative for all the love and support you have shown. Please continue to pray for our family.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
God Bless!
