Medical support needed for Reem after tragic Gaza attack

Hi, my name is Adam, and I'm fundraising for my colleague Reem Hamadaqa, a 24-year-old woman in Gaza who is in need of urgent medical care after an Israeli attack destroyed her home, killed much of her family, and left her in need of urgent surgery.

On March 2, Reem is the sole survivor of an Israeli missile that destroyed her uncle's house in Khan Younis, killing 14 members of her family, including her parents, sisters, cousins, grandma, nieces, and even her cat. The picture above is of Reem on the right, along with her parents and two of her sisters, all four of whom were killed in the attack.

Reem was stuck under the rubble for hours and besieged for more than 15 hours by the Israeli bulldozers. Severely injured, Reem suffers from three complex pelvis and acetabular joint fractures and requires urgent surgery. Due to the lack of medical care in Gaza, Reem can only receive the treatment she needs if she leaves Gaza.

Reem wants to stand again, to walk again, and to run again. She wants to achieve her mother's dream of telling her family's stories by crossing the Rafah border.

It is estimated that Reem's journey to recovery will be long and expensive. The surgery needed for her femur and acetabulum joint fractures are expected to cost nearly $30,000. Reem will then need at least three months of physical therapy sessions that is expected to cost around $10,000. After that, Reem will need to undergo a final surgery to complete her recovery journey. In the event of unexpected medical complications, actual costs may vary. Any remaining funds will be directly given to Reem for other medical care and living costs.

حبًا، أنا آدم أُدير حملة التبرعات هذه لزميلتي ريم حمدقة ذو الأربع وعشرين عامًا. ريم بحاجة ماسّة لعملية جراحية عاجلة بعد تعرض منزل خالها للقصف الإسرائيلي في خان يونس والذي قتل معظم عائلتها وأصابها إصابة بالغة تركتها في حاجة لعملية جراحية.

في الثاني من مارس الماضي، قصفت طائرات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي منزل خالها في مدينة خان يونس والذي قتل ١٤ فردًا من عائلتها منهم والدها ووالدتها وأختاها وخالها وزوجته وأولاد وبنات خالها وجدتها وأبناء أختها وحتى قطتها. في الصورة أعلاه، تظهر ريم على اليمين مع والديها وأختيها. أربعتُهم قُتلوا في الهجوم.

علقت ريم تحت الأنقاض لساعات وحاصرتها الدبابات الإسرائيلية لحوالي خمس عشرة ساعة مع من نجوا. تعاني ريم من إصابة بالغة تتمثل في ثلاثة كسور معقدة في الحوض ومفصل الحُق والتي تتطلب عملية عاجلة. لنقص المعدات الطبية وقلة الطاقم الطبي في غزة، لم تتمكن ريم من التشافي، ولن تتمثل للشفاء دون تلقي العلاج في حال غادرت قطاع غزة.

ترنو ريم للوقوف مجددًا وللمشي مجددًا بل وللجري مجددًا. لتحقيق حلم والدتها ورواية قصص عائلتها تحتاج ريم للمضي قدمًا عبر معبر رفح.

ستكون رحلة علاج ريم طويلة ومكلفة؛ حيث ستكلّف العملية الجراحية لتثبيت العظام لكلٍ من الحوض ومفصل الحُق حوالي ٣٠٠٠٠$. وستحتاج بعدها لجلسات علاج طبيعي على الأقل لثلاثة أشهر والتي من المتوقع أن تبلغ تكلفتها حوالي ١٠٠٠٠$.

وبعد ذلك، ستخضع ريم لعملية جراحية أخرى لإكمال رحلة شفاءها. وفي حال طرأَت أي مضاعفات طبية غير متوقعة، ستتغير التكاليف الفعلية. وكل ما سيتبقى من التبرعات ستتم إدارتها مباشرةً بواسطة ريم لخدمات طبية أخرى وأي تكاليف حياتية لازمة.
