Medical Help For Very Sick Elderly Stray Cat
Donation protected
This elderly feral cat was a few days away from death when we were finally able to trap him this past Saturday Feb 12th, after a year of it seeming to be an impossible task. His health quickly declined in the past two weeks so he was showing up regularly at noon every day to eat liquid food in my backyard which was a new routine that allowed us to plan his capture to get him the help he desperately needs. His illness has progressed so much that his eyes are full of pus and they're very sunken in, he was covered in motor oil and flies, he's very weak, and on the day we caught him he couldn't even lap up liquid food because his mouth is in so much pain and pouring thick drool from a variety of causes- it was horrific and heartbreaking to witness. I've seen this cat around for the last year and I've wanted nothing more than to be able to help him live at least some of his life with some semblance of comfort and love.
He is currently being given antibiotics, pain meds, B12, and steroids and will be getting blood work and a urinalysis done on Friday to assess the overall state of his health. If his blood work isn't dire, the next step will be to get his upper respiratory infection under control, treat the inflammation and infection in his mouth, and get him a full dental which would most likely involve pulling every tooth. This will all be decided after his blood work is done to see if his general health is so poor that it would be inhumane to put him through surgery or any other type of procedures that won't be able to save him while causing him more pain and trauma. The fact that he is getting a fighting chance at all is a complete miracle- the stars aligned for this angel to get the care he so desperately needs, and if he is unresponsive or unable to tolerate treatment, he will at least be as comfortable as possible during his last days and feel secure and loved- not alone and slowly starving to death in the cold due to being unable to eat.
The good news is that since his capture he has been eating a ton of soft mushy food, as well as eating his meds in the food. He is comfortable as can be currently and is resting a lot in a cozy bed, as he needs to be doing right now.
Donations will 100% be going to his care which will involve blood panel plus urinalysis, dental, misc vet exam fees for pre and post-op, steroid shots, antibiotics, pain meds, etc. In the worst case scenario, he will be placed in hospice or euthanized if his illness is too advanced and his body can't handle treatments. If this is the case, which I hope with all of my heart is not, any extra money raised will be used for other cats desperately in need of medical attention or supplies. Receipts will be provided as well as updates as I receive them.
Thank you for helping us give this creature a chance to feel comfort, safety, and love for as long as he has left. Anything helps and is so immensely appreciated. It takes a village to make animal rescue possible. Thank you.
