MedPez: A Senior Thesis to Simplify Medication Tracking

Donation protected
We are the Apple Watch of medical prescriptions.

Here's the problem: In a study of 600,000 patients, 39% simply forgot to take their meds, 20% did not renew scripts on time, and 10% put off refills, resulting in multiple missed doses.

Many people rely on mobile notifications, calendar alerts, or the help of friends and family to keep track of their medications, but no system is perfect. That's why we've created MedPez—a device designed to streamline medication reminders and refills, making it easy for patients to stay on top of their treatment.

MedPez combines the medication and reminder system into a singular device, reducing reminder fatigue and improving patient adherence.

Our team has already started development and is looking for funding to begin prototyping! The following is a summary of the work we have completed so far:

Winter 2024: MedPez is Conceptualized
Teammates Hannah and Liam identified the concept in a project-based course that introduces students to healthcare innovation processes for advanced and emerging markets. The initial product feasibility, target customer, market research, and conceptual renders were created.

The idea was to create a portable, discrete, device that could handle a few weeks worth of medication.

We conceptualized the expansion into elderly and pediatric markets.

Spring 2024: Senior Design Pitch
Last spring, we pitched the idea of MedPez to a panel of our peers, proposing the project as a Senior Design thesis. In need of a software engineer to assist with the integrated systems and mobile app development, we added Brian to the team.

Fall 2024: Initial Prototyping and Front-end Development
This quarter, Hannah and Liam are focusing on a functional prototype of the device while Brian begins mobile app development based on Liam's wireframes. We are exploring mechanism designs to consistently dispense a variety of pill shapes and sizes.
