Hello Friends & Family,

For those of you who know Megan and Jason Blunt or have ever crossed paths with them in your life, you know they are the kind of people that would do anything for anyone, anytime.

Below is Megan's CaringBridge post of how their normal lives changed in the blink of an eye. They are expected to be at Mayo until October until she is cured. Now is our chance to support them through this challenging time in their lives.

Thank you for all of the love, support, visitors, and prayers. If you prefer to make a donation directly to the Blunt Family, there is an account set-up at North Iowa Community Credit Union (NICCU) in Mason City, Iowa. Checks can be made payable to Jason Blunt and deposited into savings account #030.  We have no doubt in our mind that Megan will kick this cancer to the curb.

Megan's CaringBridge post from May 22, 2019:

Hey friends and family, I know some of you have already heard, but I am up in the hospital at Mayo in Rochester.

It all started Monday, May 13. I was having pain in my chest and my left lower back. I went into the doctor and was told I had pleurisy, and they started me on steroids. On Friday, May 17, I woke up with extreme pressure in my face and cheeks.  I assumed I had a sinus infection. I went into the doctor and they prescribed antibiotics. Later that night, while eating dinner, my left lower lip went to sleep. This lasted about 10 minutes. Later that night, the same thing happened, but this time it was my left lower lip and left chin went numb.  This time it lasted over two hours. The rest of the weekend went OK, I just didn’t feel quite right. On Sunday, the same thing happened again with my lip and chin, but then they continued to stay numb. I knew I needed to get into the doctor on Monday. I went into my doctor on Monday, told him my symptoms, and he ordered a brain MRI, a carotid study, and blood work. Later that night, he called me at home to tell me my blood work was all good except my platelets were low at 19,000. Your platelets are supposed to be about 161,000.  He told me on Tuesday morning that I needed to have the brain MRI, the carotid study, and meet with the hematologist/oncologist. They did more blood work and my platelets had dropped again to 14,000. One of the blood samples they took looked suspicious, so they sent it up to Mayo, but we were told we wouldn't have results for a few days. They sent me back home and told me to come in every day for blood work to see what my platelets were doing in case I needed to have a transfusion. About an hour after being home from the doctor, they called me back and said they wanted to admit me to Mercy for more testing. Once at Mercy, they ran a lot of  labs and took a ton of blood. They also started me on three different IV antibiotics and steroids. It wasn’t until Wednesday around 5 o’clock that we got the test results back from Mayo. They really couldn’t tell us what it was, but said it was something that was very suspicious and they wanted me to come up to Mayo.  I got checked into Mayo on Wednesday night about midnight where they did a whole bunch of blood work and an EKG. The next day they ordered a lumbar puncture and a bone marrow biopsy. My lumbar puncture came back clear with no signs of cancer or MS. My bone marrow biopsy showed that something was going on, so they wanted to send more slides out to get an answer. Finally, on Monday night, we got a diagnosis of High-Grade B cell Lymphoma. It’s an aggressive form of lymphoma, but it is treatable.  The plan was to start chemo yesterday, which I did, but today my liver testing came back high and they’re not sure why. They are bringing in a liver specialist to do some more testing, so not sure when we can restart the chemo. I’m hoping soon so we can kick this cancer's ass!

I just want to thank everybody for the texts, the Facebook messages, the phone calls, and all the good vibes and prayers you are sending my way. I truly feel them all. My family and I are so lucky to have such wonderful friends and family as our army! I don’t know what we would do without you. We will continue to keep everybody updated as we can and as we know things.

Love to you all,

The Blunts
