Megan Kay- Medical & Financial Help

Hi my name is Megan. I was diagnosed 8 years ago with Gitelman Syndrome. It is a kidney disease caused by a genetic defect in a protein in the kidney that is responsible for electrolyte exchange. There is a wide spectrum of how individuals are affected with this disease and unfortunately, I am on the severe end. My kidneys do not reabsorb sodium, potassium and magnesium and they are excreted in my urine instead of going back into my body to be used for crucial bodily functions such as cardiac function, muscle function, GI function, nerve function and just about every other physiological process in the body.  It is a Kidney disease Ive been able to manage mostly with medication over the past years until recently. Being a rare disease, so many doctors and specialists are still learning and educating themselves on this complex disease, including my own kidney specialist. For some reason, most people with Gitelman Syndrome do not show symptoms until their 20's or 30's which is why most people arent diagnosed with this genetic diorder until then. Over the past 6 months, my kidney disease has become debilitating. Some of the most common things I suffer with from this disease are difficulty thinking, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, fainting, muscle spasms and aches, and an overall feeling of malaise. In October I lost my job due to my unstable disease. Right now I am currently having to get infusions multiple times a week as well as blood work in addition to my 33 pills a day. Finances have became an issue for our family when I became jobless and these medical expenses started to pile up and all the financial responsibilities started landing on my husband and parents. I am currently waiting on my approval for disability as it takes up to 6 months to two years. Doing this go fund me was very hard for me to make but I know sometimes we all need help.
