Megan Michelle Holloway unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, November 8, after losing consciousness and going into cardiac arrest. She was only 24.
Megan, a lifelong animal lover, worked at the Bank of Oklahoma as a vault specialist but always dreamed of working with animals. Her only fear was if she could deal with the pain of losing them if they were ill or dying.
Her family never knew what animal she would bring home.
“She fed a family of raccoons. All of them would let her pet them,” her father Jeff Holloway said. “When someone told me about a baby rabbit that obviously had lost its momma, I told Megan about it and a couple hours later she was back at the house with the rabbit. Fed it from a dropper and then bottle until it was big enough to let go.
“She’s had guinea pigs, a gecko, a skunk, cats and, of course, two of her best friends — Zoey, a rat terrier, and Mia, part corgi/miniature pinscher.”
She graduated from Sand Springs' Charles Page High School in 2016, overcoming many odds.
Megan suffered a traumatic brain injury at 15 years old in an ATV accident and fought hard to regain her speech and mobility.
At the time, friends rallied around her, making T-shirts that read, “Team Megan” and “#prayformeganholloway.”
She had a tough medical life after that with various health issues, according to her mom, Renee Holloway. “She was such a fighter. She overcame most of it with a smile on her face. Many times she was suffering in silence. Her body was in physical pain most of the time. “
Family and friends are remembering Megan for that tenacity and toughness, but also for her sweet playfulness — her love of Scooby-Doo and a blanket that she’s had since birth that she’s never without.
Megan was never empty handed when going to visit her family either. From toys for her nieces, nephew and younger brother and sister, which they usually had to find via a scavenger hunt, to bringing her big brother and sister whichever crumbl cookie she knew they would enjoy, Megan always thought of others first.
People in the community may know Megan from her work at BOK and at various restaurants and the now-closed Ann's Bakery.
She leaves behind her father and mother, Jeff and Renee Holloway; siblings Ryan Holloway and his girlfriend Brooke Bellendir; Malorie Daugherty and her family, husband Randy, daughters McKenzie and Lakelyn and son Dawson; Evin and Emma Holloway; grandparents Mike and Marilyn Elliott; fiance Jordan Simpson, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private graveside services have been set, but Megan’s family will receive visitors during a viewing at Dillon Funeral Service in Sand Springs from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 14. A celebration of life is being planned for Saturday, November 19.
Her medical and funeral costs are mounting, and the family so appreciates everyone’s support. Thank you.
