Megan O'Brien Family Love and Assistance

Donation protected

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of a member of our family, Megan O’Brien, whom we will forever miss so very much. Megan was incredibly strong in her fight, day in and day out, and we never lost faith that she could defy the odds. If anyone could have done it, it would have been Megan. We are so grateful for the prayers from our friends and family around the globe. They were felt not just by Matt, Brittany, and Jill who were by Megan’s side every day, but helped all of us remain positive through what felt like a rollercoaster of emotions. We don’t understand God’s plan and we don’t find fairness in this outcome, but we know that she is no longer in pain. Megan is now at peace. Megan took her final breath on September 2, 2022 after a nearly 3-year battle with breast cancer.

Megan is survived by her husband, Matt O’Brien, and their 2 children, Ethan (6 years old) and Audrey (4 years old). She was strong and resilient, a bright light, filled with grace, and a role model to her kids and to all of us for how to live, love, and face insurmountable challenges. The impact of losing Megan, wife and Mommy, is enormous. Matt is now without the love of his life and these two babies are now without their loving and incredible mommy. Megan’s craft days with the kids sticks with all of us as the kind of relationship we strive to have with our own children. Megan’s presence in the golf cart when Matt needed a companion to cheer him on is a void that will be felt forever. As will her days shopping for the kids with Danielle or relaxing at Glen Ivy with the girls, taking trips to SeaWorld and the Zoo, hosting Thanksgiving, or simply being the great listener that she was to all of us. Megan has left a void in all of our lives, and our hearts ache with each passing day.

Beyond being a devoted wife, mother, colleague, and friend, Megan was an outstanding educator. For nearly a decade, she taught psychology courses at Palomar College and California State University San Marcos, where she developed a reputation as a passionate, dedicated, and caring instructor. There is no doubt that her students loved her and that her absence will be felt by many.

We know who Megan was and we know that the void she left will be felt in all of our hearts forever. Living without her seems unimaginable and we don’t know how to move forward. This emotional pain also comes with the financial burdens that result from the loss of a spouse. We humbly request any contribution, no matter the amount, for Matt and the kids. Your generosity and love are greatly appreciated and will make an unbearably difficult situation just a little bit easier. Contributions will go towards funeral expenses, meal deliveries, outings for the kids to remember mommy or to forget their sadness for a few hours, and for whatever is needed to support this family and help them navigate an impossible situation.

We love this family, and we know you do too. Your prayers are felt with every passing day. Your love is felt in every sentiment, large or small. Thank you all for your love and support.

God Bless.
