Over 30 years ago Megan Horn was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma. The tumor formed on her left eyelid swelling her eye completely shut. After the tumor was removed she received chemo & radiation therapy. She went into remission and has been cancer free ever since!
The medical problems unfortunately didn't stop there. Because Megan was just a baby the bones & muscles in her face, mouth & chest were weakened & underdeveloped from the radiation. This resulted in years of corrective surgeries & treatments. Her childhood was filled with countless doctors appointments, eye surgeries, oral surgeries, and over 9 years of orthodontics.
Megan received a lot of care over the years while she was growing up but now, as a fully grown adult, is ready to address some issues related to the effects of the cancer. Megan has always had an arch in the bones in her left cheek that resulted in a gap in her bite. The teeth have never touched on the left side which makes it difficult to chew normally.
Just a few months ago Megan met with some doctors from the University of Minnesota to discuss if treatment would even be possible. In the past Megan was told that any extensive procedures or plastic surgeries were out of the question because they weren't confident that she would heal properly. Things can change in 30 years so she decided it wouldn't hurt to start a conversation & get some answers.
Her team at the U of M is confident that they can help Megan with her smile! She is scheduled for her first surgery on July 29, 2019. She will have 3 surgeries over the course of one year with 4-6 months of healing in between each surgery.
Megan is one tough lady so we are confident that she can handle it but it is also scary, painful, overwhelming, stressful, exciting...ALL the emotions! Please be in prayer for Megan, her husband & her 4 children as they face all that is to come this next year!
Your financial support will help cover medical costs not covered by insurance, gas, time off that her husband may need to take while she recovers from each surgery, and supplemental nutrition.
